Meet Your Instructors:

Carl Dennis

Mr. Dennis has been a certified NCCER instructor in carpentry since 2016. He is certified to teach NCCER CORE, NCCER Carpentry Levels 1 – 4 and NCCER Drywall. He is a Journeyman Carpenter with more than 20 years in the construction industry. He has worked for a variety of companies and has owned his own residential carpentry business. He is a certified operator for a wide variety of heavy equipment.

Mr. Nunez  is an Certified NCCER Instructor for Drywall installation and finishing.

Mr. Nunez has owned his own construction company for the past several years.  He also works with the College’s Spanish speaking students in our Construction Site Carpentry Class.

Program Information

Students will complete:

  • NCCER CORE covering: basic safety, construction site orientation, construction math, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, basic rigging, communication skills, employability skills and material handling.
  • NCCER Drywall Level 1 covering: drywall as a trade, construction materials and methods, thermal and moisture protection, drywall installation and drywall finishing.

Schedule and Location

  • Classes meet from 10 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Classes will meet on the Associated Builders & Contractors of Southeast Texas campus located at 2700 N Twin City Hwy, Nederland, TX 77627.

Tuition

  • Tuition for the class is $900 plus the cost of student supplies estimated to be $120. 
  • This class is offered on a non-credit basis for those students wanting a rapid path into employment rather than a certificate or 2-year degree.  Because of this it is not eligible for regular students funding.  Funding for the program is available through the Texas Workforce Commission for those who meet their criteria.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete each course during the session in which they are enrolled. Students falling below 70% of attendance will be automatically dropped from the course.  This class contains both written tests and tests involving the actual demonstration of welding techniques.  Students must earn a grade average of 70 or above in order to pass the course.  Students must pass the technique demonstrations to the satisfaction of the course instructors.  Only students who successfully pass both the written and demonstration portions of the course will be awarded the Workforce Certificate and specific NCCER Credit.

Students who complete this course will earn both an Introduction to Drywall Certificate from the College and credit for completion of the NCCER CORE, NCCER Drywall Level 1. 

While it is not possible to earn a partial award of the Introduction to Drywall Certificate, it is possible to earn a partial award of the NCCER elements of the course.  For example, a student may earn credit for the NCCER CORE but they may fail the final elements of the class.  In this case, credit would be awarded for NCCER CORE but not for NCCER Drywall Level 1.
